    285/75/16 and rim selection

    Hi Guys.
Just about to purchase a new set of road tyres and am wondering what offset rims or backspace people have run these tyres on.

I was hoping to offset the disco rims I have by 25mm for the new NCOP.

Is this enough and what are peoples experience with this size.
    Cheers
    Dave.

Legally a 285-75-16 must go on a 8" rim width....

    I run 285s on 8" rims

My 315s are on 10" rims

    7" is up to 265s

Nope, Mickey T's will go on a 7 as with a few others per manufacturers specs.
    I checked this.

    What backspace did you run?

    Cheers.

Sorry, yes, your correct.... MickeyT does allow a narrower rim...

    I run 3.75" Backspace on the 16x8
    The 16x10s run 4" backspace

Spoken to my tyre mate (Leading MickeyT dealer in SA) and he advises the following with the 285 on a 7"...Bit too much tyre squirm he says... They'll fit, but you'll feel the flex as you corner.

    Just passing the comment on!

    Thanks mate - appreciate it.

I am torn as to buy a 16x8 as it will be similar dollars.

I might go and test the waters as to pricing.

    Cheers

so where do you buy wider rims? I know you can get Disco rims off set by a couple of companies down south but not wider rims?

285 is quite a wide tyre, I'd definitely want 8" wide rims for that. You should be able to find some tyre shops who will help. I think the Speedy Desert Rat is available in 16x8, not sure on the price.

I am running my 285/75R16 Silverstones on 16x7 inch Disco steel rims.

16x8 is the 'right' width but I don't care, the Disco steelies were dirt cheap and better than those cheap and nasty Sunrayias anyway.

I'm running that size cooper stt's on standard disco steel rims - 7". Ok according to Cooper. Rubs a bit on full lock to the left but not badly so.

So do my Silverstones. I had some offset rims before but they stuck out waaaay too far past the guard and wasn't going to fork out $600 for some flares so the std offset rims will do.

Hitting the radius arms with those you sure do know about And I have adjusted the stering stops out to stop this
