Thread: Technical info ?

Could be that us "newbies" just want to get involved.

You know, until I jumped onto this site I thought I was the only Land Rover Tragic in the world. Even after a couple of trips with the LROCV I still had not met someone who had actually owned more than 3 Landrovers.

Now I'm looking forward to the day when I get to personally meet some of the "characters" on this site. And I guess that would be the same for all the other "newbies".

So what does a newbie do? Research the threads for info - don't get involved and then rock along to Cooma and say "Hi Fellas, I'm Barra1 - been on the site for 18 months, never posted because I "searched" but it's nice to be a part of the AULRO.

Alternatively - rock along to Cooma -

"Hi Guys, I'm Barra1 - posted a few things and thanks for the info you gave me regarding the springs".

"And how the springs Barra1". or "Barra1 that was a stupid post regarding the Newbie" ........ or whatever, who cares... it just makes it easier if the "newbie" has been involved.

Asking a question is the easiest post and easiest start to getting involved. Annoying to the old hands I know.

I agree, Barra1. In searching through the old tyre threads, I discovered my inevitable newbie question about tyres and rims

What I loved (and love) about this site is that people know amazing amounts of stuff, but no-one is a "know-it-all." There are so many people willing to educate a newbie.

No one is 'knocking' newbies, as Inc succintly pointed out, we were all 'new' here once upon.

What yanks my chain a little about Zutes original post is the inference that this forum isn't 'helpful' and that he also adds that some don't add enough 'tech' to their posts, which may be a valid point.
I merely state that there is a hell of a lot of tech in the forum, just sometimes you may have to have a bit of a look. Some appear to take the easy way out and just post, rather than having a look around first.

good points, but you can always contact the mods if you have any site related questions, that is what they are here for.

Scrambler, whilst we are patting the backs of everybody on the site - I agree, the patience shown by the aforementioned "grumpy old bast*rds" on this site, is fantastic.

Take a bow, Old Hands (even the old bast*rds) for the attitude shown towards the Newbies.

In all seriousness though - have a look at other forums - there are not many that hold a candle to the general attitude that is shown here.

The search function isn't very good on tyres - for the very reason mentioned here - there are too many threads on the topic. It's faster to ask. And, in general, you get the answer you are looking for, plus you meet such nice people

Righto, back to the grindstone.

If his sook is about Tech content in the tech section then why did he post this thread here in the tech section.

Might be a newbie mistake and seems I have only been here for less than a year, I may be thought of as the same but I would think that it would fit better in general chat.

As far as tech info goes and the search function, I do see his point as when you do a search, it comes up with hundreds of pages of stuff on tyres and sometimes you have to wade through at least half of them to find what you want.

As far as questioning goes, if it was stated that your looking for threads that refer to BFG AT tyres, one of the regulars would normally pull up a link to exactly what your after but you have to ask a specific question about a specific item or product to narrow the search a little and some one will remember that someone posted something that will help and post a link.

Hope this is helpful tech info.

BTW if your having trouble searching, ask that question first or look in FAQ's.

Not very helpful, why fit them ? Was it just because they were the first ones you saw in a mag ? or is it because that's what you sell ?
This is a Tech' chatter forum, please add some Tech.

I am probably the Culprit that gave such a short answer, i.e. Lovells and Bilsteins, (but not yellow bushes), opinions offered on this forum are like ar$eh0les, everybody has one, I offered my choice, expecting many others to offer theirs, then I beleive it is up the Asker to go off and do some research into the offered opinions and do his due diligence and then come back and Ask again, say, "I'm interested in theree particular brands of XXX springs and shocks" and ask for info from those that have this gear fitted to their vehicle and i'm sure he would get as many replies as he or she would need to form an opinion on what and where to purchase, Regards Frank.
