Disco 96 V8 - noisy Low Range
Hi all
Can anyone tell me if their Disco Low Range is noisier than their High Range when they lock their CDL ?? Mine is an auto V8 with low kms - 122 000. It works fine in Low range with no loud clunks or anything - just the whirring sound of gears turning - is this normal ???
Thanks for any help you can give.

CDL shouldn't affect the noise level. It has no influence on the gears when used off road.
There is a slight whine in my RR (same transfer case as your Disco) in low range, especially with a bit of speed up) but that's only because the low range gears are spinning faster. The teeth cut on low range might have some influence too.

Thanks Scouse, maybe that is all it is. Haven't done a lot of low range work in it yet so I might go out and give it a bit of a flogging and see if it gets worse or just stays the same.

If you lock the CDL on a high traction surface and turn sharp so you wind the transmission up they will make more noise.
I hope you are not doing this??

My Disco low range is noisier than high range. Whether locked or unlocked.
