    85 RRC V8 air/emission pipes

Not sure what these things are called, but there are a two pipes that run on either side of the heads, and bolted near the spark plugs (so four pipes coming up from the heads, joining into one pipe that runs parallel to the rocker cover and blocked off at the ends). I think they are something to do with a tried, but unfinished emission control stuff?? My question is, if they are blocked and have no real purpose, can I remove and screw in bolts in their place? And if I can, what bolts should I use (mild steel, stainless, copper)? Anyone done this already, and if so, what do I need to look out for?

PS: Im thinking of removing this as I think one of the pipes is cracked and to remove unecessary clutter.

    Cheers,

You can get brass plugs that fit in there nicely, yes it is emissions junk that is meant to dilute the noxious gases and give a falsely low nox reading at the exhaust, earlier models had an air pump as well but the one on yours just works on vacum. Most corode badly and have been removed long ago.

    second that.
I have some USA 4.0-4.6 heads with 2 per side with plugs.
But the bosses reduce the exhaust ports a bit.
