    Disco 1 300TDi Vacuum Pump

    Hi guys (and Girls)

Just had the Disco in with Sutton Motors (Alice Springs) to replace the swivel seal. While under there they gave the car a looking over and came back with a list of things that they recommend need replacing in the near future.
Most of the list is just worn bushes and a torn ball joint boot etc, jobs which I have no problem in getting done (the great thing about Suttons is they didn't try and pressure me into getting the jobs done then and there, nor did they paint the bleakest picture possible as some dealers tend to when touting for business)

Anyhow, I'm digressing......one of the items on the list is an oil leak coming from the vacuum pump. Now I know this could just be a blown gasket, but if I go to the extent of removing it and find its something more I would like to be prepared.

Does anyone have any info on the vacuum pump (exploded diagrams etc)?
Does anyone know of a service kit for the pump (I hear a replacement is around $400.00)?
Anyone know of any common faults on the pump?
Anybody got any advice/suggestions re the pump?

    Any info would be appreciated

    Cheers
    Jason

    Try these:

Ace also had a good project with pics on his site:

The site seems to be down or turned into a ad/search site. Maybe with a little encouragement he'll repost the tutorial here.

If it is leaking, chances are the internals are going to be worn and you will end up needing to replace it soon after rebuilding it due to lack of vacuum.
Paddock Spares in the UK do them for 85 quid. even allowing for postage, it is still going to be cheaper than getting one locally. Easy replacement, four nuts and one hose clip with the engine at TDC
(yeah, I know, so why didn't I fix my own...)
