Angry 94 V8 rebuilt Starter stuffed?

Well, it's obviously winter and that means a heavy toll on electrics/starting/charging system. Last year, I had a my starter rebuilt (supposedly) by a sparky.

This winter, I go to start the engine (after a lengthy period of non use of Disco, so I realise battery slightly discharged) and engine sounds start off initially with just the clicking of the starter as if there is not enough current draw. Switch ignition off and on a few times and restarting progresses from clicking sound to very slow cranking to eventual starting.

Battery is Optima Red Top 12 mths old 800CCA with 12.4-12.6 volts (terminal voltage). Battery feels it has the grunt to turn engine over eventually, but I feel starter is preventing this.

Could the so called 'rebuilt' starter be the cause of problem (with the cold weather too). If so, can anyone in Melbourne recommend a decent sparky to do the job right this time.

As said, 12 mth old Optima Red Top, Alternator is putting out 14.01 volts when running, recharging battery around 14 volts..

It's an original Lucas from memory (when I removed it last time)
I'd love to do the job myself, but not sure if I should with the Lucas or update to something with better cranking.
I'm in Glenroy very close to Fawkner. Will update my profile.
FTG is a bit far, but thanks for the offer.

So my $160 rebuild was ****e then?

Sorry to jump in on the thread, but I would like to overhaul my starter motor / alternator can you tell me where to source brushes from. Over here in WA it is fairly difficult to source them. Any info would be appreciated.

So should I overhaul the Lucas starter or go for new. Seeing the previous overhaul 12 mths ago didn't seem to do the job?
