hi green gumby i have 32's on mine and yes they do rub. the bumpstops need adjusting on the front. and the arches need to be trimmed a little to fit the wheels under. i also have a two inch lift and could probably have got away without doing anything to the front arches but opted for a set of flares anyway. i also live in perth and if you want, your more than welcome to come and take a look at mine to help make up your mind. there are people on here fitting d2 flares onto a d1 that involves a lot less cutting. there are some pictures on a thread called "do i need to cut my arches" if you do a search you'll be able to find it and the pictures might help you make up your mind.

Smally I am in the same boat - I have bought a 96 V8 auto Disco that has 235/70/16's on it, I went to a tyre shop and they told me I could not fit 235/85/16's on because they would rub on the control arms at the front ?? Is this true - I have seen pics on here of some of you guys running much bigger tyres than that - did you have to do major mods ?

i lifted my d1 3 inches in the front 4 inches in the rear
this lift works well running the 31X10.50 tyres.. (no rubbing)
if you dont want the rubbing on your front arms you can change your rims which have a different offset.. but you still will have to lift your disco
    cheers.

I haven't had to adjust any steering or bump stops so it may well be a case of suck it and see.

I have a 2" lift on my D1 and run nominally 31" Simex which are actually close to 32". They rubbed (slightly) on the front and rear (cut) guards but I never had to do anything about limiting the steering or fitting longer bump stops. They don't rub on the front arms.
