    disco1 & 32" tyres questions

I have a 94 disco v8 manual ,its time to buy new tyres.. disco has 3inch lift, rear guards have been trimmed.
running 31" BFG tyres at the momment.
i want to run 32" tyres.
    questions..
are 32" to tall to run on stock gearing (dont want to change ring & pinion)
how far will my speedo be out.
would fuel usage increase by much...
Any Advise from owners running 32 inch tyres would be great...
    cheers smally

hi smally i've got a set of 265 75 16 on mine which i think equates to about 32. the speedo under reads by about 10 kmh and she drives right off road. still good engine braking on downhills and i'm still attacking at hills in 2 low. as for fuel usage - dont know - dont want to know.

    thanks taff
i been happy with 31" tyres(gearing wise)but ive put a couple of dents in the front diff.
dont know if i should upgrade to 32" tyres, slight increase in diff clearance...
or buy new 31" & a front diff protector.
    cheers

With a V8 32's will be fine. You will use more fuel and downhill you won't have quite as much engine braking.
Oh and I would still buy a diff protector.

235X85 & 265X75 R BOTH CONSIDERED 32`S there`s only a couple of mill in it. U may however have more rubbing issues with the 265/75 being wider they wont tuck up as neatly.Everything (except downhill braking )will be a fair bit slower & u will find yourself slipping the clutch a little more.
On the + side, yes way less dragging but as John said buy the protecter anyway! I dont thik anyone would advocate any bigger tyres without changing gear ratios , stronger axles ,diffs etc.U r on the verge of tipping in the big dollars.
    Cheers Dean.

I've got the 32s (235/75) and so far have only fitted a maxi locker & axles to it. The speedo under-reads a few km/h and ideally I'd like to change the high range gearing to Defender spec to make it more pleasant on the road, save a few gear changes etc.

Good off road, no issues since it's the same as the 'fender gearing anyway.

have you looked into how much it would cost, to change to defender high range gears
    cheers

The labour costs really have a huge affect. Essentially you need to treat it as a re-condition with two? new gears fitted. Costs about $1500-2000 to get someone to do it. Other option is to get a 2nd hand 'fender unit for similar money but I figure that if I get my unit re-coed then I know that its all good.

Smally I am in the same boat - I have bought a 96 V8 auto Disco that has 235/70/16's on it, I went to a tyre shop and they told me I could not fit 235/85/16's on because they would rub on the control arms at the front ?? Is this true - I have seen pics on here of some of you guys running much bigger tyres than that - did you have to do major mods ??
