    Hey Feeny, funnily enough, my bro' who I saw last week (he's a mechanic) mentioned exactly this procedure...

    ...but he reckons 1 part molasses to 10 parts water; he was talking about 'cleaning up' some old brake drums etc; said they were 'amazing' after a week immersed in the solution.
