    Re-newing Rangie transmission mounts

    G'day guys,

I have decided to replace my engine/tranny mounts after discovering all four had sheared off - at the same time . The Landy is a 1977 2 door 4 spd so it has the LT95. The engine mounts were a piece of cake but the transmission mounts seem to be unecessarily tricky. I can't get a spanner onto the top nut of the mount (bracket on the transfer case) and my Haynes manual does not mention mount removal/replacement .

This obviously means I have to remove the brackets from the transfer case, bolt the mount to those then refit and lower the whole lot onto the chassis brackets - doesn't it?
Sorry for the long rant but the transfer case brackets are a bit tricky and means sliding an open ended spanner up the side of the transmission tunnel and also the right hand side bracketry seems to be tied in with the handbrake assembly. Is it just one of those swear-at-the-car jobs or is there a trick to make it easier. Car must be done by end of tomorow (Sunday) so any advice appreciated - even the bleeding obvious

Cheers - Will (slowly learning home mechanic)

G'day Roverwill, I've just recently done some in my Classic but had the floor out. Was very simple with all that access. Yes I did unbolt the whole bracket from the chassis, bolt up one side of the new mount, loosely only finger tight as they were on an elongated whole, then reattached this bracket to the chassis and slowly let down on the jack underneath till I got the the other side of the mounts in. I can see it would be dificult to get to the top bolts of the mounts from underneath. Once the top was in, I let right off on the jack and bolted up tight. This seemed to all work for me!

    Thanks for the reply Robert,

The problem with not being able to get at the top nut means I will have to do it up tight and then try and lower both sides at the same time.

Oh well - give it a go

    Thanks - Will
