    D1 TC Oil Refill?

    Hi Blokes,

Changed the oil in the diff's and Transfer case today.......

No big deal but Im wondering about an entry in my haynes w/shop manual.

In capacities there is two amounts for the tc ie

    Upto Suffix D.........2.3L
    Upto Suffix E.........2.8L

Im guessing the D & E are in the VIN number or something, but whats the differance in the two Tc's please?

My TC took about 2.1L, looks like im a "D"

Also is it a good idea to double check the Level after a few days?

The suffix is on the serial number of the Transfer case. Your's should be an E suffix. Don't worry too much about the Haynes manual, sometimes they get it wrong- RAVE says 2.3L for the 230T. By all means check the level later, but do it with the nose pointing downhill, as it lets you top it up without causing a mess. As long as you get oil on your little finger when you check the level, it will be OK.

Ok thanks for that, just interested........

I Just got back from a drive, no probs at all , but I did have trouble getting it out of diff lock before I set off. Had to get underneth with 13mm spanner and unlock.

That has been another recent issue, but seems fine when I got some oil around the TC, as I stopped out the road and move's easyly in and out of diff lock now.....fingers crossed

Yeah thanks for that, the TC is full,as the oil in fact did dribble out of the filler hole, but I was just not sure what the differance was between the D & E prefix.....

but I will double check level in a few days anyway.....

Up to suffix D (LT230R) used roller bearings for the intermediate shaft/gears. Later LT230T and (LT230Q) use taper roller bearings.
