Dave, if it's only dim, check the earth point first.
A globe will usually work or not work. Dim means a poor connection somewhere & the earth is normally the culprit.

Good luck with the rego !!

Thanks Scott. (if only I knew where the earth point was... it seems to be wired directly into the loom.)
Not wanting to dispute your mastery of all things automotive but I've had several globes on the Disco go dim - they develop some sort of coating on the inside of the glass (of the globe itself) that cuts down the light.

It's called mud Dave I agree with Scouse and was going to post it but assumed you would have checked that. And yes I know what happens when I assume.

I had to wire in a new earth for my Series III indicator and park light - like yours it goes to the loom but in my case wasn't working at all. Just a thought.

Yes, the globes will coat, but more often its that they aren't running at the proper temp rather than the coating itself dimming the light (symptom, not cause).

Clearly none of us know how to get to your globe!

In the later ones, remove the front glass by removing the surround panels (two layers in a Series 3). It will be either that or remove the shroud at the rear, but my money's on the front.

Thanks Scrambler - yes it looks like front access. Chrome surround with a tension screw at the base. Undo screw chrome rotates but doesn't seem to want to come out. I don't want to break anything just before inspection...

Just one screw? Does it hook in some way? If it's just one screw, then I'd try to pull the screw side outward - probably clips under something on the opposite side?

There might/ should be more screws underneath if this is just a "dress" surround.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm out of time now have to drive the little beastie to Windsor - lets hope they'll count the light as 'working'.

Once you undo the screw you can "open" the chrome trim and take it off the light. Then you can access the screws that hold the light assembly into the bowl. Once the light is out you can either A: replace the bulb or B: replace the entire unit if it a sealed beam type.
