    Should I replace anything? RR engine swap

    From the below picture should I be looking at replacing anything in there? I will admit I don't have much of a clue what I am looking for and are just following a mythodical process of removing nuts and bolts as per haynes manual and got the stuffed heads v8 out of a 81 RR and have a good runner from a 77 RR to put in.

    Something must have been done recently to the TC/tranny as the rear plate is fairly clean compared to the rest of the unit and looks like it has a new seal, even though its got a slow leak.

    I haven't actually driven the car as I couldn't get it running but aparently it drove onto a car transporter at the other end under its own power.

    It looks like the clutch cylinder is leaking a bit, is this normal? a seal or something I need to replace? I intend on putting in an auto in the future (6-12 months away funds pending) so just want a fairly reliable runner for now.

    you can get a rebuild kit for the clutch salve cylinder.
    I just cleaned & rebuilt mine only took about an hour or so and the kit didn't cost much as I remember.
    OH BTW no it shouldn't leak.

    check the rubber clutch hose to see if it's perished.

    If you are replacing the box in 6-12 months I wouldn't bother doing anything other than the cylinder. No point in wasting time & money

    personally I would keep the manual but that's just my preference for off roading. if u do lots of sand get an auto, anything else a manual is better IMHO

    BTW if you do get a auto I wouldn't say no to the rubber boots over the base of your gear stick

    Speaking of thrust bearings are you supposed to oil, (CRC) the new bearing before you use it or is oil in close proximity to the plate not really a good idea?

    Ok... off to search the forums to find out what a thrust bearing is! sounds a bit phallic

    I assume it would be in the haynes manual sitting at home....
