    series 3/stage 1 springs

    hello peoples

I have a V8 LWB wagon stage 1 and wanting to make a home made compition 4WD machine.

i just have a couple of Questions if anyone cold help, that would be great. Also the vehicle will not be reg so mods are limitless.

    1. can i put the leaf springs on top of the diff, front and rear for height? (long shocks aswell)

    2. whats the best way to make it a ute?
from what i can see the roof is one piece
the 2 side walls are one piece
    the windscreen is one piece
then i would be left with the ute tray so to speak and the cab of course.

    IS THIS ABOUT RIGHT

thanks for the help in advance

    What sort of competitions?

What you are talking about is SOA (spring over axle). It has some advantages, but will raise your landie too much (unless you use flat springs) and make it unstable. You really need to fit wider axles to keep stability.

SOA conversions are illegal in QLD and a few other states - probably all states when the NCOP comes in.

For a comp vehicle, you usually want to keep it as low and stable as possible. You can fit huge tyres to a landie with some guard mods.

Personally, although I love my IIA, I would start with a coiller if I was building a comp vehicle.

Yes now that i think about it, i understand what you mean about unstable.

mainly comps like at landcruiser park and if a mate says i wont get up that hill, I say i can, kinda comps
I dont expect to win and im not goin out to be hardcore, just to have fun.

    So what about the body?

is it easy to turn into a good ol ute?

So you have a hardtop (1 door each side) or a wagon (2 doors each side)? For ute conversion - 1 door good, 2 doors baaaad. If it's what I think, you just unbolt the roof and remove - voila! Add ute roof is desired (usually about $150 on ebay - you see about 1 every month or so)

If you have a true wagon (or omnibus as the build plate says) then you will need a ute back - still can be dones just a heap more work. Again, remove all the bits you don't want and add the bits you do.

I've done that. Its just a rear bulkhead, rear glass and a bubble roof. If you've got a Defender windscreen??? you may have to use the flat ute roof. Also, make sure you get the rear bulkhead off a LWB, not a SWB as they will be different due to the rise in the chassis.
