    disco stalled

Gday , My 97 v8 Disco stalled out last night.
The wife went shopping and as she went over one of te speed bumps the car stalled. I ve checked fuel, seems to have fuel in the rail. Checked for spark, spark is evident from the coil to the distributer but not from the distributer to the plugs. So Im guessing at the moment its electronic ignition. So can some one give me an idea as to which checks to perform?

    thanks Digger

Just wondering if it is the collision cut out switch, I think it is on the left under the dash and can be reset if it has tripped, she didn't get airborne did she, probably not, just a thought, Reagrds Frank.

The cut out switch is on the firewall behind the window washer bottle on a V8 D1 update.
It could be it as it cuts power to the fuel pump.
Could also be the relay for the fuel pump if it was loose.

Did it restart straight away and been fine since?

The fuel pump appears to be working fine I can hear it humming. There is also fuel when I press the valve in. It has not restarted since, I had to have a tow truck bring it home.

    Hi Digger
Have you checked the condition of the rotor arm?

If it has fuel, is obviously cranking and has air then it would have to be spark wouldn't it?

Have you checked the coil lead for continuity/spark?

UMMM ok I read the post again and you said you have

What about the small pin and spring inside the top of the distributor cap, the cap itself, and does the rotor arm spin as it should when you crank the engine?

double check the security of the dizzy cap and the button in the top of it that connects the cap to the rotor.

if the cap has slipped a clip and allowed that little button to drop out you aint going noplace, ditto if the cap is not sitting down properly anymore

The rotor spins as the engine is cranking and the pin is in place ans springs at it should.
