Hi turtle146, the lowering of the D3 while trying to change a tyre is one dangerous feature but you can lock the suspension height by leaving any of the doors open.
NOTE just leaving the back opened WILL NOT lock the suspension height.
Cheers.
Recently had a flat tyre on my D3 while towing. As you might imagine, I wasn't impressed when I had to disconnect the trailer, and remove the towbar, to be able to drop the spare wheel down. Apart from fitting a Kaymar bar to the rear, is there any other way of removing the spare when towing? Also, how do you stop the suspension from extending when you are trying to jack the vehicle up? And the jack!!! I won't go into that piece of crap!
Look forward to some comments.

The only times I've had to change the spare on a D3 or RRS, we parked it on a bank and tipped the car.
You could always lock it in access... It's also not as far for the jack to go. I have to agree with you on the quality of the jack though.

You can ask Stevo 68 as I know he has at times hadto replace a tyre or two. He has a D3 and knows the ins and outs of that department.

Done it a couple of times now (Love them Goodyears). Unfortunatly you have to raise the car to full height and then jack it up, when the jack is locked in it seems quite stable but it does state in the manual that it must be in the raised position

Thanks guys for the suggestions. My main problem on the day, was that the vehicle decided, in its great wisdom, to lower itself while we were travelling. Hence the necessity to pull over. I was also towing a very heavy trailer (approx 3t). This added to the overall weight. I found, much to my dismay, that I had to disconnect the trailer and remove the towbar, to enable the spare to be removed. I was lucky this time, as I was able to pull over on a fairly flat spot. What happens if you have a flat on the side of a hill? What do you do with the trailer? Most trailer hand brakes are like those found in Toyota's, crap!
Ah well, I have replaced all my original tyres now with new General Grabbers AT2s.
Yeah um thanks for that CraigYou can ask Stevo 68 as I know he has at times hadto replace a tyre or two. He has a D3 and knows the ins and outs of that department.
__________________. Yep is a bit of a pain hence why I am getting a Kaymar rear bar, hope to have it on soon when it comes in, mainly for rear protection but also for ease of changing a tyre.....mainly off road, plus will get another grabber and put that underneath to have 2 spares. I would have thought you could change the tyre with the tow bar on, as soon as it lowers the end towards of the front of the car would drop and then swing it back onto ground. Gunna give it a crack on the weekend,

I never thought of doing that, however when the car is down on its haunches, there isn't a lot of room to manauvre the wheel. Is there some trick on getting the wheel holder off the spare to release it?I would have thought you could change the tyre with the tow bar on, as soon as it lowers the end towards of the front of the car would drop and then swing it back onto ground. Maybe get a 2nd spare on a rim and throw that onto the trailer when you're towing. It could save you a lot of trouble, plus it's part of your inventory for a big trip.
Oh, what the heck, throw a trolley jack onto the trailer as well.![]()
