    R380/LT77 to 300tdi ??

Apart for bellhousing is there any differance between a V8 R380 and a 300tdi R380?

Also Is it possible to bolt a 300tdi upto a LT77, if so whats involved??

    Possibly the input shaft...

If you've got a copy of the parts manual, grab one and compare part numbers.

The first gear ratio on the diesel is lower than the first gear on the V8 R380... the rest are all the same.

For your first question - I'm doing exactly this at the moment, swapping over my r380 gearboxes. As far as I can tell the big difference is the spigot at the front end of the input shaft ( The end of the shaft that fits into the hole in the flywheel). The Tdi ( prefix 55A on the serial number) R380 has a 22mm OD spigot and the v8 (53A prefix) has a 20mm. I've yet to see the v8 spigot bush, but I imagine that I'll have to get a special one machined up. Which shouldn't be a problem because it's only brass anyway.

sintered bronze, actually, which is a pretty important difference.

I'll report when I get my hands on a v8 spigot bush... and show pics of how to pull a r380 apart. It may be that you (and I) will have to swap input shafts.

(of course if anybody knows of a toolmaker who can do a custom sintered bronze bush in the Sydney metro area I'll be terribly happy.)

You will need an adapter plate to fit a 300Tdi to a LT77.

Get a 2.5 N/A engine and remove the back plate from the rear of the engine.

On your 300 tdi engine remove the rear back plate including the oil seal housing and its oil seal.

Now bolt the 2.5 N/A back plate to rear of 300 tdi engine. It fits straight, a nice simple conversion and no expense, or shouldnt be unless you have to buy a shagged 2.5 N/A.

There you, oh nearly forgot to add. Its gas mark 5 for 20 minutes per pound + 20 minutes

    Have fun,
