Thread: squealing brakes

Are they floating calipers? sometimes they stick on the slide pins and drag a pad, remedy cleans pins and bit vaso on them, are your discs glazed? did u machine the discs or just dump the pads in like I do, Late Fords are notorious for this I put it down to bad caliper design coz if u fit steel S pack calipers to a Ford they dont squeal, if alloy calipers check em over real good under xtreme heat they are known to distort, not saying these are Rover traits I know nothing of Rover disc set ups just offering what I know from spannering on Fords for 10 years

Yes just dumped them in, discs didn't look to bad done 90k

Did you apply copper grease or brake lube to back of pads.

the majority of new pads these days have anti squeal paste painted on, I heard brown paper behind the pads works too, havent actually thought why it would work, just told it did.

Theres a proper brake anti squeal paste you should use for the job.

You know what I mean paste, grease, KY
its all lube just used in differant areas..

did you measure the discs?

Has the beast done any beach work ....

I think your best bet is to pull it down again and clean all bearing surfaces with a wire brush.

Apply a thin layer of copper grease or squeal paste to rear of pad and to bearing surfaces.

Copper grease is used alot where salt affects areas
Google it if you like..Just use it in thin layers..
