there is a plug on the right side of the radiator, remove that and keep filling with the engine running.
I just replaced the thermostat on my D1 V8 and think I've got an airlock in the system.
I partially drained the coolant, changed the thermostat and gasket then slowly re-filled as per rave. Ran the engine up to operating temp and topped up some more.
My top hose is hot but I can't feel coolant in it. How can i tell if the thermostat has opened? Any advice on bleeding the system would be greatly appreciated.

on the top of the block next to the vally cover/intake plenumb will be a pair of cooling pipes with a branch on one of them that rises up and terminates in a plug, these pipes lead back to your heater element.
remove this plug,
on the to of the radiator there should be another cap about the same size and shape, remove that too. and then remove the cover from the coolant expansion tank.
fill up from the expansion tank till the coolant appears level with the top of the radiator, replace that plug. keep topping up slowly and then when the coolant appears at the plug on the block close that one off, put the cap back on the tank and your done.
run the engine for 15-20 let it cool slightly and check your level at the tank again.
Thats how I used ot do the disco and I had no hassles with it.

i think i've got it sorted. it must have need a bit of a rev to push the air out. kept slowly pouring coolant in until it started spilling out of the radiator with no bubbles. tested heater and it works fine.
i installed an engine saver low coolant alarm in the top hose and that seems to work too.
thanks for the tips guys![]()
