The viscous have the bonus that you cant really stop them with water and grit and whatnot. The downside is they send water flying when they go under. Hence electric are good, ya can turn them off as you're drowning. You can get some really goo after market electic fans that are pretty water, mud and dirt resistant. They're often used on machinery and mining vehicles and whatnot because, well, they need that kinda fan. I dont know the price though, or even who our (at work) supplier is for these goodies. I will be looking into it soon for myself though too!

The Ford ones might not be sealed but the Landie (nippon denso and this is why they failed) fans also tend to fill up with dirt.
For the price I would rather replace Ford Fans

pretty sure the motors are replacable on the ford fans, might be an idea to carry a spare or 2
