Steering crabbing after replalcing parts ...

    Hi all
I recently had a new steering damper and rear tie rod ( is that the thing the steering damper connects to ? ) fitted after I bent the previous one.
..they said they did a wheel alignment but it pulls more to the left more then previously and it sort of feels like it's "crabbing"
..would anything they did/didn't do properly by replacing those parts cause this .. they are a LR specialist but don't have a proper wheel alignment rig.
tks for your help I'm a dummy when it comes to steering set ups....

There is no science in aligning a Disco, It can be done with a tape measure unless something is bent.
All the fancy equipment in the world will not do it better.
A thorough visual inspection of the leading arm and trailing arm mounting points should be done, measuring the distance from a known datum, eg the rear trailing arm mounting point.
Pulling is most likely if you have bent a suspension mount, and you have to hit something pretty hard to do that.
Alternatively, If a bush has coincidentally failed at the top of the rear a frame where it mounts to the chassis , it can cause pulling.
Take it back to the specialist, and point out the pulling. They should have road tested it.

I wasnt saying there was any science, and all the fancy equipment if used properly can be a very powerful diagnostic tool as well as a very good visuall check is done before they start adjusting anything.

Best thing to do is to get it off the ground on a 4 post and have a look if you want to do it yourself and then jack the body up and check every thing again.

It's probably nothing too serious but I suggested tyrepower as they are not expensive, they are quick and they know what they are doing, tick in every box.

I used to do it myself on all my other cars but after taking numerous amounts of skin off my knuckles that I normally do enough of during my job, I discovered that I can get someone elses skin on the bits under the landy and he does as gooda job as me if not better.

I once did the Triton on the beezbathe machine at trade school and was amazed at all the information that I could get from the 4 sensors, I had no idea that one of the back wheels was bent by 1/2mm that wasnt even noticable but was wearing one of the tyres un evenly.

Good luck with what ever way you go Wayne.

You would be going to remove skin off your knuckles doing a LR alighnment

Ok I've had the alignment done but the steering wheel is not straight now so I give up and will do it myself.

One last question : to adjust the drag link length do you need to pop the ball joint or can it be done without doing that ? ( i don't have a ball joint puller )
