    Clock in a 98D1

The clock in the D1 is always dim as if the headlights are on. Is it a quick fix or buy a new clock??

    Quick fix!
Pull it out and replace the bulb that is in it.

    Trick to pulling it out:

Slide an old credit card (or similar - as it will damage the edges use something you don't want to keep) in along the top edge to pop the 2 clips down so you can slide it out.

    Mine had the same problem.
I just can't remember how I fixed it.
There was something else seemingly unrelated that I repaired and the knock on was the clock suddenly lit up correctly.
Anyway don't go buying a new clock just yet, it will come back to me in the next couple of days when I'm not thinking about it!!

It is supposed to dim when the headlights are on.

Bright for daytime driving. Dim for nighttime.

I think he said as if the headlights are on.

There's a bulb in behind the clock you can replace - you can buy the complete bulb and holder unit or just buy the bulb itself from SuperCheep.. there's an old thread on here somewhere about it....I did mine so its easy however you need to be a bit careful handling the clock.

Uhh - OK. Sorry. Didn't read closely enough.

I just did this to my D1. A new globe from Land Rover is $19. I got one from my aftermarket LR guy for $5. As mentioned the hardest part is getting the clock assembly out. Apart from that it is a 2 minute job.
