the loss of idle might be due to the crankcase scavanging system leaning the mix too much as its letting too much air in and if after full reassembley it keeps on doing it other things are afoot.

If Its been sitting there might be some moisture in the exhast thats getting spat out h20 is a byproduct of the cat but is usually expelled as steam

pressure test the cooling system and if it passes that bring the engine up to temp and do it again there should be no change.

Had same problem on a rebuild a few years ago

    - pulled heads off to accidently find that the oil feed hole through the head was completely blocked on both heads.

    - this after they were reconditioned by a professional head recon business.
10 mins with pipe cleaners and all was good.

    G`day Pete

Don`t be concerned about boring anyone , i`m sure alot have learnt more than they knew , i know i have i`d never given the rocker shaft or arms alot of thought as to where the oil actually went .

I think Daves right about the idle , that`s normal .

The liquid out the tailpipe isn`t a concern unless it`s still there after it`s had a good run .

I`m sure you would have noticed on a cold morning the fumes coming out the tailpipes of cars , same sort of thing .

Those fumes are still there on a warm morning just not as noticable .

Sounds like your on a winner but anything else just ask .

    Cheers
