    v8 exhaust mod?

Just got my 96 v8 disco.
just wondering about getting a good note out of the exhaust WITHOUT it droning (and doing it cheap) was either going to
1: remove rear muffler and fit pipe straight through
    2: fit a sports muffler

what are your experiences and tips
    thanks
    Andrew

Did what you suggested - rear resonator lopped off - didn't make much of a beefy noise. Then a sporty muffler replacing the factory one. Its got a bit of a bark now and could probably do with a small can on the back. Inside noise is okay... The replacement muffler is a no-name jobbie.

Lukey mufflers have a nice note and a small can at the back will knock the tinny bark out of it.

My 94 Disco came with a 2.5in exhaust. It has a muffler and a resonator I think.

It doesn't drone at all. The Disco has such good sound deadening that it is nice and quiet inside but you do hear it when you put the boot in.

However when I am standing behind it with the engine running it is a bit loud and I do generally turn it off when we are standing around talking about routes etc so it must be ****ing loud when driving around.

I've been told that when I leave work they can hear me leave but I don't hear other cars leave. Our office is on the 3rd floor and is a solid old brick building. Interesting as I only idle out the car park and down the hill.

    I like it though

There is a big difference between a good note and the drone noise in the cab on a long trip.
Been in a few V8s that sound wicked but drone away in the cabin at hwy speeds, you get over the sound REAL QUICK!!!!
Make sure you do plenty of reaserch, best bet if somebody nearby has a good exhaust kit get them to take you for a run.

I put the following on mine - tuned extractors make sure they are four into one, 2 5/8" exhaust, straight through muffler and remove the resonator. now have substancially more power, note is excellent, better fuel economy (if I dont drove it hard)

    very happy with the outcome

My Rangie has second hand extractors, straight through centre muffler and no resonator. I don't notice any drone and it has what I think is a nice note.

So how about if one removes both stock mufflers and replaces them with high flow types.. will that give you a nice note?

Should do. Or don't put a rear muffler on at all. That was the first mod on mine.
