    Double Shafted

    I am trying to get rid of a very painful vibration in my 90.

    The steering wheel shakes up and down between 70 and 100 - its quite severe.

    If I take the front drive shaft out its better, if I take the rear out it best, but it just doesn't seem to like running both.

    The swivel preload has been check and the only other thing I can think of are the BFG MT's I'm running. However if it was the tyres I think the vibration should still be there when one or other driveshaft is removed.

    Any ideas??

    How much do you drive it...If left sitting around a lot it could be flat spots in the tires..

    Been in mud... could be mud behind the rims. I drive the beach alot and get sand behind the rims..It shakes then.

    Fault in one tire like a bubble or shot side wall..or out of balance.see above.

    Taking the drive off the bad tire could reduce the affect..

    Stuffed Uni. loose nuts on wheels. DTs. Gremlins. Fairies.LOL

    how many k's has the 90 done? what motor/box?
    how much lift?
    dose it vibrate on trailing throttle or under power or both?

    Could the uni-joints on the prop shafts be misaligned?

    yep, but only if the yokes have been cut off and welded on in a differant position than they were.
    the rear prop on a 90 is inline. ie like this

    where as the front prop is out of phase.
    im fairly sure that when i was doing my props that the slip joints could only go in one way, unlike my old disco one that could be rotated, it required lining up by the 2 arrows on the opposing pieces.

    My 90 is running about 3.5 inches of lift. Both the front and rear shafts have been modified with d/c joints. The uni on the front shaft is pefectly inline however the rear diff pinion probably needs to be tilted up a little to get 0 angle on the uni.

    The vib seems worse under power.

    The tyres were recently balanced but is quite possible that one is stuffed.

    The car is a Td5 on its second gearbox with 60000k on the clock!

    ive got 3'' of lift and no DC joints.

    do you reckon that the cause of the dead first gearbox could have something to do with the vibrations??

    how bad was it b4 you installed the DC shafts?

    The front vib was worse before the front d/c and the rear was about the same.

    The first gear box just lost syncro in second so don't think it was related to the vibs.

    The reason I put the rear shaft in was to try to fix it but so far has not achieved any thing, thats why I was starting to wonder about tyres etc.

    chuck a post up in the general section and see if someone down your way can lend you a set of good tyres and rims for a test. at least that will sort out wether its them or not?

    just out of interest whats your bumpstop clearence and your wheel center to flare height.
