    transfer box swap

    Info required

Can I fit a S2 (2001) transfer box to my S1 (94) auto box, it should bolt on ok but not to sure about the oil seals.

Have a low mileage S2 trans box and was wondering if I could use it.

    No. sort of

It'll go on as far as I know, but the transfer box wont have the speedo drive, and it may very well not have the CDL mechanism in it either.

    Transfer box swap

    Thanks for the reply Slunnie,
Have just come back from a 600km drive, around 300km from home after visiting a deli (lunch) noticed a large pool of trans fluid under the disco, could not find any leaks etc then had it looked at at the local garage same result but hardly any oil in trans, so had it filled and with some spare trans oil headed for home.

Stopped and refilled the auto box untill I arrived back home (3 litres) it seems that the oil seals have let go and filled up the bottom of the bell housing and when stopped dropped the oil.

So was wondering when the t box is removed to fix the problem could I refit with the S2 box, but forgot
    about the speedo problem.

You can swap the rear housing and parts for the speedo drive. You can also swap the centre diff lock parts if the disco II model does not have them.

But you will probably find that you can't use the high and low range output gears from the disco I t/case in the disco II t/case (rover changed tooth profiles but not sure change over year model).
