    time required to replace injector/ECU wiring on D2

    Hi - I'm making a claim under by 3-month second-hand warranty to have the injector and ECU wiring harnesses replaced on a 99 TD5 Disco. The dealer (non Land Rover) mechanic wanted to use a second-hand loom and said he had sourced one from a wrecker for a V8! It also became clear he'd never worked on a diesel before, so I got them to agree to purchase brand new harnesses (sent direct to me) and we'd go halves in a diesel mechanic of my choice. The diesel mechanic in question has a very good reputation and says he's replaced the harnesses on several TD5s in the past and that it takes 3-4 hours - this seemed rather high given that only half-a-dozen or so plugs need to be connected up - or is the routing of the ECU harness difficult for some reason?

    Depends on whether its just the injector harness in which case i'd say it was high for an experienced mechanic (took me about 4 hours!) or whether its the ecu loom too, as i beleive thats a huge loom routed all over the place so 4 hours i would of said sounded reasonable...

    im probably wrong tho.. for a change...

    yep, it's the whole loom, and LR have just quoted 5 hours, so 3-4 hours seems reasonable after all...

    Ray at Canberra motor works in mitchell said it is usually a 4-5 hour job to do both looms..he's done a few !!..guys at Cooma Diesel in fyshwick or Morwoods will be able to do it easily as well..mine was sorted by Ray at CMW and everything sealed very well and no issues a year down the track..

    Im planning on it being 3 hours for doing mine. But mines in a deefer and I already have the acoustics out.

    theres a couple of bolts that will be fiddly in a disco that wont be in a deefer and I can lift the cover strait up without having to worry about how I handle it on assembly with regards to smearing the gasket for the same reason..


    Id quote 4 hours for a disco.
