I've recently swapped to Koni's from Bilstein, the Bilsteins do the same as what you've described, I believe it because they are a gas shock.
This is probably a dumb question but i am going to ask.
I just pulled the shocks off my series 3 wagon. Should a shock rise to its full length when no weight is on them, or will they stay where they are when compressed. because i am shure that when i took the shocks out of my disco they wanted to rise to there full lenth and when i squashed them they rose up again. But I maybe wrong.
cheers.

Thanks Hobie18 yea, my disco has got billies and my series 3 has got monroe radial matics. and they are about a thousand years old so time for some new ones but not to sure what to get for the old girl. . Thanks for clearing that up.
Thanks JezzaAol. as well.
The spring leafs arent so refined as to be able to take full advantage of a gas pressurised damped shock (the type that self expand) There is some advantage but unless youve got preformance enhancing mods or parabolic springs fitted you might as well save the $$$.
