    I can change gears again

Well after 2 months of using Caltex then Penrite light gear oil I'd had enough and dumped them and re-filled with ATF. It's amazing,I could use all 5 gears from cold,no more first to third changes for the first 10k's,I could get fourth first try and reverse went straight in.Ahh the joy,the joy of it all. Pat

    gearboxes are idosyncratic, eh.
Only time I've ever used ATF in an R380 (actually a mix of Transmax Z and NEO 7wt) I was gobsmacked at the effortless first couple of gear changes, then it was no better than Syntrans, and was worse as the 'box warmed up. Did 10km and dumped it. (and before anyone panics, it was done as flush. )

I get the best performance from synthetic ATF. I was going to use Penrite Synthetic ATF, but put Transmax Z in it and the LT77 has never been smoother. Although its [hideously] expensive, I've found something I like the feel of so I wont be bothering trying another brand now. Let's just hope the wear protection is sufficient

I change the fluid every year regardless of miles, have done since new.In the 2 months I have run gear oil there was more metal on the magnet in that time than in any other time in it's life.I tried the oil after joining this forum as everyone else was but my R380 likes ATF so thats that. Pat

yes a working box is preferable to one that doesnt, the old ford T5s are a trap for the uneducated with oil

I used Transmax Z in my LT77 and it felt like I had put in 140w!! -- straight back home and put the min. ATF back in and switched to Redline MTL later and this suited. Idiosynchratic is the right word for transmissions!

a low viscosity manual trans fluid, approx 10.5-11 cSt
    @ 100*C made by Redline.

I've used it, plus a blend of MTL and Redline MT90 60/40 and feel Sytntrans is better.
