this shows why the crank had to be machined that groove aint ment to be there.

test completed and sorry about the size of the images... this is the mother of all thread hijacks....

the big end bearing... that groove that looks like it was machined in there aint ment to be there

the lower half of the mains showing typical wear

the upper half of the mains

In a pinch this could have been rebuilt by doing the old shell swap trick (just rotate the shells in the journal)

the rear main a sign of good servicing is when you have bearing shells that look like this..

    the cam bearing and...

the cam the yellowing is the cooked oil staining Ive seen cams in much worse nick than this still doing the business, more importantly the bearings and the cam side of the bearings look good.

    Finally

thats the cross hatching STILL visable on the bores and given that all the bores measure up to within tolerance for the nominal spec I think that its the original honing marks or this engine has been rebuilt with new liners by someone who really really knows his stuff.

    Blknight,
To me that block needs a slight line bore as they can settle over time.
The centre bearings have more lower wear than the ends.

maybey but given the fact that all shells bar #1 are about evenly worn and with nominal wear patterns for an on the cheap rebuild Id have left it alone (which was initialy on the cards due to lack of time to do it properly but thats now changed)

As I dont have acess to a decent engineering straight edge any more (someone used the one at work as a prop for bracing the job before tackwelding it and welded it to the edge) I couldnt conduct anything past a MK I eyeball on it. now that time is no longer the critical factor and Its coming in under my projected cost its gone of for the full treatment on the bottom end.
