10 spline to 24 spline conversion

    G'day all,
firstly, thanks to all that helped me decide on my diff and axle mods for my 92 Disco. I'm going to try the detroit locker and trutrac combo with 24 spline LR axles, and carry some spares. I picked up some axles off ebay and now need to source the stub axles etc. Now I'm a little confused about the hub assembly. I read on other posts that it is necessary to also use the hub assembly from the later disco. But when I look up part numbers from various suppliers it has one part number (ftc942) listed for all D1s and RRC 87-95. Can someone tell me what is needed to complete the conversion.

    Cheers,
    Pete

AFAIK, all 24 spline front axles have the smaller cv's with the small, fine spline star section. The inner axle strength is reduced because of the step down to smaller star.

The hubs and spindles are narrower - wheel bearings closer together and the stub shaft of the cv is shorter.

    You have 2 options:

The weak option is to fit the later disco I hubs and spindles etc. and use the stock 24 spline axles and cv's.

The stronger option is to get after market 24 spline axles from maxi-drive or macnamarra and their kit to fit early county cv's to your hubs.

Disco II's changed to unit wheel bearings - what ever you do, do not use these.

    Hi John,
I'd love to get the stronger option that you pointed out, however, the other half still insists that the house renos must come first. She just doesn't seem to understand. So you're saying yes, the hub assembly needs to be changed.
