 Gearbox windup?

Any one heard of this before? I'm keen to hear anything helpful.
I select reverse -high or low range. On a slope - enough to make me roll backwards ,if I roll back a foot or two with clutch pedal depressed ,then the truck will stop-bound up somewhere in the machinery. When this happens I can't move either gear stick, even if I stop the engine.I can 'drive ' through it with a thump and a lurch by releasing the clutch pedal. It only happens in reverse. The mechanic took both driveshafts off today to 'feel' the diffs and thinks they're ok, but I'm a bit worried about him as he did'nt know it had three diffs untill I told him the other day - and he's been servicing it since I got it eight years ago Any clues?
                             Don
