I won't mention who rebuilt i till I know what they are going to do about it. So either I will have something good or bad to say about them

Without taking gear box out I don't know exactly what is wrong, but tran oil is ****ing out from inside bell housing and something is definately out of balance in the box as well

Never had a ZF auto box but my experience of their manual transmissions in trucks is that they are frighteningly expensive to rebuild and certainly not as easy to use or as long lived as a Road Ranger.

Hmmm, I wonder if this all started from a broken flex plate.

Real Shame. Not good news, I was hoping that you had something simple go wrong.

At least you were not too far from help and caravan parks..Darwin and not down the track some where.

I hope the rest of the trip goes trouble free for you after this.

I'll open the inspection plate and take a look

One of the mechanics I spoke to said that it sounds like the converter and flex plate had parted company in some what.

Right now I don't even want to look at the thing.

I am going to strip all the gear I have on it and send it away south

It's not common, but you do hear of it happening. The tell tale apparently is a rattling.

For the price of a Bearing, Seals and Gaskets/complete rebuild kit not incl shafts or gears for a ZF 6 speed manual box out of a single axle Mercedes Prime Mover. I purchased a new 9 sp. Road Ranger G/Box, Bellhousing, Clutch and Tailshaft kit and fitted to Merc, definitely not cheap, but a really good box, Regards Frank.

If I add up the last couple of years what I spen on the car, logic would tell me that I should have just got rid of it.

    1. Fuel regulator
    2. Fuel pump
    3. ABS modulator
    4. Gear box (2x)
    5. Alternator
    6. SLS compressor
    7. Front Prop shaft
    8. Starter motor
    9. Injector wiring harness (2X)

Add to that the cost of regular maintenance and also the numerous clearing of the good ole ABS/TC... lights, its been nothing but a black hole for money and a source of lack of confidence every where I have travelled
