    Fuel Pressure Regulator

    BigTim

I was told by the dealer at about 150,000kms that my fuel pressure regulator was leaking. At 240,000kms I still hadn't changed it and have just traded it back in to the same dealer (got the new '07 model)

Call me a fussy bugger but I don't like having fuel dripping over the starter motor etc. Thought it was oil to start with but turned out to be out of the little hole in the end of the regulator.

No worries - all swapped out. Took a couple of hours but I had to find my tools which took almost an hour.....and I wasn't exactly rushing.

Thanks for the tip on the locating dowels Blknight, I used a 50mm length of threaded rod and it made life pretty easy even with my big hands.

Now I have a complete spare set of all the hoses since the part is only sold as an assembly - guess they go in the parts box just in case

When I get a couple of minutes I'll disassemble the old regulator and see what the cause was - I'm guessing some 5c diaphragm or something like that. If it's fixable I'll post photos.

A friend with a Td5 Disco had the flexible return hose to the regulator split last week.

Is this and the reported regulator leak a common problem?

If so, does it only occur with certain year models or is it common across the Td5 range.

Maybe a spare should be added to the box during remote area trips.

Any more news on the possibility of repairing the leak BigTim?

It seems that leaking fuel regulators is not such a common problem after all.

Only time mine leaked was when I cracked one of the pipe mounts. Had it welded back into 1 piece for $10.

My regulator has just gone, leaking like a siv. I am Canberra based, what is the best price for one of these things? I did my brothers at the end of last year, should have done mine then. DAMN

Try better Brakes in Fyshwick. Used to be moorwood motors. If they don't have it on the shelf they can get one quick.

I payed $320 for the reg and then watched my mechanic put it in for $40 .

I still believe it should be a recall as it drips onto the starter and could start a fire.

I would happily pay $40 to have someone do it for me; however this is unlikely. Even if recalls were done, mine is a 97 disco with a TD5 transplant, which means less room between the rear of the engine and the firewall. NO

Well I got it in today. took me about 1.5hrs, happy with that....

The Regulator and new gasket cost $385.

I found this on the net, quite useful, TD5 Disco fuel pressure regulator - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum

it shows pictures and gives a good step by step, of what to do.
