Disco Tail light conversion - No indicators to Indicators

I have finally bought some of the early/late D1 rear tail lights with indicators in them, to replace my current D1 update tail light that do not have indicators in them.

I am removing the lower lamps completely as to make a new rear bar.

Is there any special LR wiring issues, or is it all plug and play?

(I have searched, but didn't uncover any 'light' on the topic)

    Cheers
    Dave.

This what you have at the moment:

And when you look at the plug, there are only four connections. The all-in-one unit has six connections, and all six are needed. You will need to splice (Don't cut them off as you might need them later) two wires into the plug and into the units. They are the indicator wire and the taillight ( Green/White or GR for indicator, Red black for tailight). I used plain brass female spade crimp connectors (jaycar or DSE) which clip into the plug. Might be an idea to solder the wires into the female spade connectors if you haven't got crimp pliers, and use solder and heatshrink on the splice, so you won't have to worry about things going wrong later on.

    Cheers thanks for that.

I'll just take them out and give it a go.

As for getting the indicator and tail lamp wire feeds, I got them from the factory trailer harness on the driver's side which you will find behind the tail light. Just run the passenger side wires inder the aluminium strip under the back door.

I actually only activated the tail lamps in my non indicator tail lamps.

Just remember that to keep your car legal you will need to put tail lights back into your new rear bar. ADRs changed around 94 with respect to visibility arcs for tail/indicator lights. Hence because of the spare - landrover and many other manufacturers had to put lights down low clear of the spare. D2s met requirement by putting the lights up high on the body.

Thanks - I'll keep it in mind

The spare will be mounted in the car so no visibility issues.
