I have a nice set of "ratchet" ring spanners (there is actually no ratchet, they are sprag clutches) that let you work with under 5 degrees of swing. So now that the nut isn't ridiculously tight, I can sneak in with that between the oil hoses and the battery

There is a nut then locking plate,with ears that bend over , and a lock nut. They are either 52or 53 MM depending on who you talk to, and a box spanner is about $15 from most specialists. Make sure you replace the locking plate with a new one or use a different place on it.

I have had one which with new bearings the washer behind the main nut locked up to a shoulder on the stub which was a little strange as mine doesnt but they do change things from model to model sometimes.

I wonder if the movement has messed with the air gap on the ABS sensor and that's the cause of my abs fault? We'll see.
I havent found the abs diagnostic plug yet... I REALLY need a manual
so the abs sensor drops in through the top swivel pin?

If you have a wobble after going over bumps look at the swivel bearings.I did mine last week and they wear in the straight ahead position and as they jump out off it they loose their preload and wobble like hell. Pat
not a wobble as such, just really large amount of back lash in the steering.
Replaced tie rod ends from the steering box to the left wheel, very minorly improved. popped the pan hard rod out, the rubbers look a little cracked, but not loose.
I wonder if the rear suspension could be sloppy enough to have this effect?
I should have my new shocks some time this week and I'll get a set of suspension bushes.
Just as a possibility you could torque up all your suspension link bolts.
I did mine on the weekend and the most loose ones were the radius arms where they attach to the front diff housing. They needed a couple of turns each. Others needed to bit nipped up while others needed nothing.
It is a long shot but it might be contributing to your problem if your bolts are the same.
