    Traxide upgrade headlight loom .

I have finally got around to fitting the kit but first step is to work out where to mount the relays, so anyone with a D1 where the hell do you mount them ? Has to be close to batt and headlight but the only available space is just behind the RH headlight ( susceptable to water) or i make a bracket and mount them near the fuse box ?
There is a smidgeon of space between the batt and rad support panel but i dont really want to have to remove the batt and shift it over slightly. Pics would be good if you have them.

I mounted mine above the battery on the divider wall that the ecu bolts to near the postive battery terminal, only thing is that to remove the battery I have to unscrew the relay unit but no biggy as how often does the battery come out this is on a D2 not sure of the battery set up on a D1

I made my own loom so I made it so the relays sit on the inner guard upright around the middle. So it goes battery, then factory fuse box then relays. There are captive nuts in the guard that I bolted them to.
The same place as my spotlight and compressor relays.

On my V8 i mounted them just in front of the brake master / booster on the side panel.
I mounted 2 relays in this position (headlight & driving light)

Plenty of room there for the V8 (my snorkel is
    on the pass side)

I made up a small bracket and put in next to the fuse box in my D1 V8. After a recent trip it was one of the few places under the bonnet not coated in mud.

That is about the only space i have left as where your charcoal cannister is i have the cruise control unit and vac reservoir next to it, i think i will mount them directly to the inner guard vertical.

Be sure to run your wires and measure very accurately. When i did mine, mounting the relays where the jack sits (D2), things were very tight with wire lengths. If you get the second relay for spotties, consider asking for more cable. I had to add to it.
    NJZ had the same issue...

One thing to note when installing them in the same place as me is the cable length. Defiantly measure twice cut once. I had only a few cm's spare.

    I just remembered.

Well someone read this and reminded me...

Hi Folks, even though the kits are generic, they will fit most vehicles including the D1 and D2 but the one thing your missing is that the wire runs should be as short as possible.

The longer the wire run, the more voltage drop in the circuit, the lower the brightness of the headlights.

The mounting of the relays can be a chore but there is no simple way around it.

The very first loom that was made, for a mate, was installed in a Nissan 4x4 and the only place to fit the relays was directly behind the driver’s side headlight.

He was also worried about water so after making a mounting plate that allowed him to mount the relays and wire them up before fixing the plate in position, it also allowed him to cover the plate in plastic.

Personally, I think the plastic is overkill and as there are a number of D1s running around with the same set up but without the plastic cover and have not had any trouble, so it is just a matter of make up a simple plate that fits behind one of the headlights.

    Problem solved.

The only kit that has needed modifying is the defender kit and this has only been to cater for a few that needed an extra long cable from the battery but most of the defender kits went in without out any problems. Ask Justic, he’s fitted a few now.

    Cheers
