3 bolt pinion flange centralising peg thread?

    Hi all,

Does anyone know what the thread and size of the bolt hole is for the centralising peg on the 3 bolt rear diff flange on the Discovery?

After all the searching I did online and not finding it of course I found it just after I posted this.

    For future reference

    crank it down really tite

hit the outer part of the flange with heat to soften the loc-tite

    crank it tighter

the hit the outer edge of the flange with a hammer

    POP goes the centering peg

this has worked a number of times...includding one that a person that will remain nameless on this board tried EVERYTHING else.

Thanks 4bee however I think the peg is too small for a 13mm hole to be in it.

I'm not doing this for about 2 weeks as that is when I'll pick up my shaft. I'll update this thread as to what it definately is then.

It may well be. As I mentioned, it is a "note", & it came from the LRE Forum a few years ago.
I have removed mine to do the seal, but had no need to specifically note it at the time.

Please confirm what you find UM.

I've seen mine twice too when changing the donut and cleaning out the handbrake oil leak. Like you I never thought of checking the bolt size at those ideal opportunities. Oh well I'll report back upon visual confirmation

mate chuck it, classic rangie shaft and a 4 bolt pinion flange and **** it off. Much easier than removing it, cause you can cut the ***** out

    It is definitely 8 x 1.25

I have a small collection of stretched and broken ones that were the result of me trying to get mine out. I had never seen an 8mm high tensile bolt stretch to the point of being about 6mm in diameter before breaking . Ended up needing to use an oxy to burn out the loctite.

This is why I need to remove the centralising peg (and the flange)

I'm hoping that since I had a rear locker installed last year (early this year?) that it won't be too stuck. If it is I'll just turn up the heat
