			Intermittant Coolant Leak

G'day, over the past couple of months, I've observed a minor coolant leak from beneath the radiator. It comes and goes when ever it likes. I'm left with a 50cent size pool of green liquid in the driveway. It appears that it only leaks when the car is switched off. Any ideas?

It may also be leaking when you are driving & air flow & heat would evaporate it. Have you checked your coolant level? It may be lower than you think.

I've only checked in the reservoir and it's okay. It sort of seems when I put coolant in up to just over the top of the + marker, it will cause this leak then bring the level down in the reservoir about 5mm below the + . While I'm cleaning the crankcase breather I'll take the top radiator plug off and check. I hope you are wrong 4bee.
The coolant temp has never ever moved above the half way mark and always stays just under halfway.
Might start sourcing another radiator though. My wife is going to be ever so happy...

Maybe it's not from the radiator. Maybe it's the well known split reservoir tank problem?
Search on here for details. I hope it is.
I assume you have double checked clamp security?

Well, none in particular, just generally check them & nip them up.
Two spring to mind that are a tad difficult to get at, well one really, is the one on the block sort of behind the AC comp. You need to go in from behind it with an extension small socket.
I think that one is a heater hose.
The other one is the one to the reservoir which is jammed in there.

Might be worth checking the pipe to the reservoir for cracks or pin holes as well. I've had that one. In my case the leak appeared as the coolant cooled down after driving.

I shouldnt be so lazy hey. I'll get up early and clamp em all up. The coolant is dripping down onto the timing pulley area, runs down to the bottom rear of the timing pulley then onto the ground. Would this indicate a water pump leak seeing that it's in the area?

To Dunnie, seem to have the same issue as yourself as I think it's leaking when the engine is stopped/off....

the water pump failed 170km out sine Birdsville I had been told it was p Gasket had it replaced. When I took the water pump off the gasket under show there was a leak in the end the bearing fail and had to be towed in.
Took a bit fun out of the trip. It only leak after about 15min after the engine stop.
All the best
