So a 'ricey' blow off value doesn't suit a diesel? Only highly strung petrol engines?
Some petrol engines employ a blow-off valve so as to prevent stalling (effectively) the turbo when the throttle is closed, but others use a dump valve to vent the boost back to the turbo inlet to achieve the same result without any noise. A lot of diesels don't have a throttle valve so don't stall the turbo. But mine has a throttle valve (currently disabled) without any means of re-routing the boost side of the turbo which has 2 effects: the turbo must be spooled-up again and the life of the turbo bearings is shortened.
I have to retract my comment completely on the boost contral as after Bush65s post I remembered that some of the MF and Volta tractors dont run boost control as they are limited by the efficiency of the turbo and they are governed to suit.
