Fairy o/d for LT95 are they any good ?????

Would like to know the pros and cons of these units as im thinking of fitting one to my rangie also maby fitting the county LT95 i got cheep would this be a good option or should i just stick with the .996 to 1 gearset in the LT95 i have fitted now ....

Reason being my current LT95 needs work as theres a fair bit of backlash in the t/case and the county one i have is in top condition .....

Also whats a good price to pay for a good second hand LT95 with the .996 to 1 gearset as im lookin at one but i think its a bit over priced for what it is at around $700 when i got the county one for $80 ......

why do people say no........the fairy OD was a good unit the only fault with it was on sever angles the oil ran back into the T/C, I ran one for years in a standered 3.5 carby rangie........made a grate add on to the 4 speed box.........

Because you can't get parts, if you can they're dear, and unless your running around like Nanna heading to church on 205 tyres, they fail

They are only supposed ot be used in 4th High.
I had one on a 77RRC. Bought it cheap with gone thrust washers and bearings.
    Main problems
The bearings on the input and output shaft run onto a machined surface, and it brinelles causing lots of noise. You can get bearings at bearing places with the same OD and ID but with its own track.
The thrust washer on the input shaft wears out. You cannot get these. My Czech engineer mate made one up.
All the gears AFAIK are Land Rover Standars gears so no probs there.
I had mine in about 4-5 years, but at the end the Fairey used to pop out of direct gear when the main gearbox was in first going down hills in low ratio. Now I do not know whether it was the gearbox or the Fairey as I sold the car.
I suspect it was the gearbox,as I recall I removed a shim from the output shaft when putting the Fairey on, and I believe ouput shaft play can cause jumping out of gear. Or it may have been the Fairey thrust washer dying.
I reckon a 5 speed would be better or a set of high ratio gears.

FWTW - I've been using my S3 with Fairey for over 20 years both in the bush and around the property - never a problem - keep the oil up to it etc etc
16 forward gears is great !!
    Am I just lucky?
