    Hope that makes sense.....
Some have 2 gears in the portal which will make the wheels spin backwards, and some have 3 gears (in effect) which will make the wheels spin in the proper direction. Those with 2 gears have a diff centre that is designed to spin backwards also and so the net effect is that the axle still drives you in the proper direction.

The crownwheel is on the other side than normal on a portal with 2 gears so the wheels turn in the correct direction.

Heres mine. They're unimog 406 steers with 50 degree steering lock, 6" drop and air lockers. The drum brakes are massive, OD of 16.5 inches! hopefully i can find some tyres big enough and have my land rover buggy thing ready for Tuff truck 08. I also need to sell my 2 sets of current diffs (Dana 60/70s and toy rangie hybrids) tyres and wheels.

    Andy,

That will be interesting. Good luck with the project.

I just have to get my rangie project finished, then I can concentrate on the bushie with volvo portals.

I will have to check. I was going to swap a car for the rig. The body has rust but the engine and gearbox have been rebuilt. It was set up as a mine recovery vehicle. Top speed of 60km/h.

Do you know how expensive or hard it is to convert the front mog diff to DS drop? I assume its a bit more than flipping the front housing and diff centre and then remounting the portals.
Depends on the axle - some of the bolt together jobs can be flipped around, others need to be cut and rewelded (404s have a double-tube casing which makes it harder). As a minimum you will usually need to buy one axle (halfshaft) though.

Andy - will be great to see your progress!!!
