    Big bang!!!

Got in the Defender this morning, put into reverse and as I let the clutch out it was like I was trying to back over something. Got out and had a look around, nothing, got back in try again, same thing and all of a sudden a big bang from the driveline and everything frees up.Went for a drive no probs, everything checks out, is it possible that the handbrake could have failed to disengage and then suddenly released??

    Yes.
Often some oil on it will cause it to stick.

yeah you do, you oil it through the Tcase it works on the same principal as the chassis rust prevention system......

it also happens if youve let it drag and the grease in the adjuster has clagged the rollers.

Handbrakes often stick if applied when wet and allowed to dry...
