Take off the A/C belt too - won't hurt the AC system either.
Then you''l have a better idea of whats squeaking. If it appears to be the fan hub, you can inject some grease into the fan hub bearing using a grease needle (supercheap -$8) slide it in sideways, and that will keep it alive a bit longer.
Also look for leaks with the turbo hoses.
Of course the whirring noise could just be normal gearbox/TC noise - in which case as long as they have a sufficient amount of nice fresh oil they should be fine.
