    300Tdi Fan Hub Bearing replacement

I have to replace the fan hub bearing on the front timing cover of 300Tdi. Rather than "reinvent the wheel", has anyone on the forum successfully done this with the replacement from Alan Howard in Tassie?

I'm after the technique employed. I suspect that removing the bearing from the cover will be OK, with judicious 100C heat, but the removal of the three leaf pulley carrier from the front of the bearing might be a problem.

Short of drilling out the bearing, any hints? Pictures? Problems I should avoid?

I'm watching this discussion with interest as I have the very same problem with my 300tdi....

Conventional wisdom is that the correct & most efficient fix is a new front cover, however like everybody I'm seeking a cheaper alternative.

I was just thinking I ought to bite the bullet and order one when I saw this discussion.

Even saw a pic (think it was this site) where some dude had fitted a grease nipple on top of the bearing housing in the cover

Just been through that dance, bought a new cover as my fan adapter boss was shot..but the old cover will be getting a new bearing..need a proper press to press out the old one as the aluminum cover looks fragile

Yep, been running for about 3000km now....
As Grommet only gets used on the weekends, the bearing does not get enough clean use.... it gets mud and other crap..

    So far So good
