    What are my dash lights for?

    G'day all,

    I've got some dash lights that never do anything and I was just wondering what the symbols were for.

    I have one which is a trailer - which doesn't do anything even when the trailer is connected.

    One which is a sort of P symbol held within a circle which is surrounded by brackets ()

    One which is a (!) symbol with Brake written underneath is.

    The good ol' seatbelt symbol - I'm guessing to indicate that someone doesn't have their seatbelt on.

    If I know for sure what they are suppose to be for I may get them wired in if the equipment is there to use them....

    the (p) is the park brake light and should come on when the parkbrake is up from the fully released position

    the (!) BRAKE light will be the brake fluid level warning, the brake pressure differential warning light or both

    the trailer light should come on when there is a trailer hooked up and the indicators are on. It should flash with the normal indicator light on the dash, If it doesnt someones either bodged the wiring, fitted a non genuine flasher can and dropped that circut or youve had your lights replaced with the wrong wattage.

    But I have a park brake light - it says "Park Brake" and comes on when the handbrake is engaged.

    The (!) brake level light is fair enough, wondered what that was for :-)

    For the trailer light though I'll have to check it out. ARB fitted the hayman reece and generally I don't get filled with confidence in their work.. only lights I have uprated were the headlights and I am assuming they don't make a difference to the trailer light connection?

    no they dont just the indicator bulbs...

    the whiteman magic in the flasher can that drives the indicators requires that the bulbs in all your indicators add up to a certain amount of resistance, when you put another bulb in the circut the second light for the trailer should light up. (it should also flash once each time the indicators are turned on as a bulb check.)

    If you want to see if you have the correct flasher can to make the dash light work, pull the flasher can out. If it has 3 pins it is the right one. The middle pin is the one you are after. If you want to see the dash light light up then put 12v on the socket the middle pin plugs in to.

    This is how it is in my 94 Disco. Can't see your Defender being too different.

    Hi All,
    I asked the same question a week or so back.
    The (O) with a P in the middle is discribed in the owners book as "Park Brake-Optional" It comes on when the motor is cranking, as does the brake fail/low fluid light
