    Question pre/post 2002 ecu's for disco/defender..

A web page I read has said post 2002 ecu's are not compatible with pre 2002 vehicles?

    http://www.web-rover.co.uk/nav.php?p=td5kb/ecufarce

True? I know they are different...

I was under the impression that a post 2002 ECU (flashable) was indeed compatible with the earlier trucks. I was looking around a while back to replace my '99 D2 Manual ECU with a flashable one from a post 2002 car and was told that the post 2002 ECU itself could be reprogrammed to suit any car. Also that even an auto post 2002 ECU could be reprogrammed to suit my '99 manual D2

Having said that, a few i spoke to said you could not interchange ECU's so perhaps they were right.

Keen to hear a definitive answer though.

I think the cut point for interchangeability was at the 2 - 3 wire throttle position sensor change over...

if yovue got a 2 wire tps you cant have a newer computer and vice versa for the 3 wire

    From what I understand,
MSBxxxxxxx ECU's cannot be used as a replacement for any other ECU. NNNxxxxxx can be interchanged as needed, however the ECU needs to be re-flashed to adjust for different injector codes (or something like that).

I think tombraider would know the exact ins/outs of this kind of thing.

Don't know if automatic/manual td5 ECU's are interchangeable though (there's slight variations in the numbering).
