You folk have made up my mind. I'll get it done anyway, for peace of mind.
    Thanks for the advice.

Never heard of a post 2001 having this problem.

Last service on our 2001 Discovery and the mechanic said ours should be OK if it has not come loose yet.

This was MR's at Redcliffe (Queensland) who are a trusted service company.

    Graz..

I had mine checked by Richard (KEI4) who is perth based.. see recommended suppliers.. highly recommend him..

its a oct 2002... bolt wasnt loose but it wasnt tight and wasnt loctited..

got to be worth the peace of mind!

i seem to remember andy mentioning guest and puddey had 2 engines lying around in their sale that had suffered that fate... so it cant be that uncommon either..

    Thanks

    Steve

Had mine checked a few months ago ( 150,000 k's)
No loctite and very easy to undo. Got it in time.

Whilst I don't want to tempt fate, the fact that it isn't loctited doesn't mean it will come loose. I've spoken to a number of LR mechanics about this and they reckon it's a much over-rated issue, including one who has never seen an example of this problem despite working on hundreds of Td5s. Nonetheless, given that it's a fairly straight forward bit of preventative maintenance, it can't hurt...

Its only overated if it does not happen to you. Talk to some of the guys who have gotten $18-$20k repair options after it has happened, that LRA do not want to know about. I have spoken to at least half a dozen and many more where it was loose. For the small cost of some loctite, a sump gasket some fresh oil and 3 odd hours it is worth the peace of mind.

    As CraigE says.

I have 2 to do in the next few weeks, and I mention it to Td5 owners as a must do because of the consequences of failures being so catastrophic.$$$$

Most agree and we do it during routine oil changing while servicing.

Checked the oil pump bolt on the weekend. Turned out it was tight and loctited though I redid it anyway. Now I can rest easy in that regard. Now to the other problem.........

    Cheers
