    Help: water pump gone or leaking from 300tdi

    Guys my 300tdi is leaking coolant from the front of the egnine but it is ont the passenger side of the front of the engine (hope that didn't confuse)

    I think it is the water pump question is, if the water pump has died and leaked and I have nmanaged not to cook the head. whats it going to cost to get repaired, Anyone had it done recently?

    Water Pump

    G'day Nick;

    mine had done almost 180k and it was time for water pump replacement anyway, mine wasn't leaking coolant ,Water Pump pully was getting very noisy and was annoying the crap out of me , you'll need to lock the Power steering pump Pully to undo the 3-bolts on the Pully , take it off to access the 1-Bolt that holds the water pump Pully behind the Power steering Pump pully,if you wanna replace your water pump/Gasket. I had to call out a mobile mechanic with an impact gun, because I had no device to lock the pump Pully, need an 8mm socket to undo the Bolts for power steering pump pully, also invest in some gasket remover, it was a bitch of a job getting the old gasket off,to put in new gasket.

    all the best mate.

    the Most enjoyable part of owning a L/R is working on it.

    Last time I purchased a water pump it was less than $50. Try www.karcraft.com.au

    Sounds more like the "P" gasket to me... Check that out first before you replace the pump.

    fixed 300tdi water pump recently

    hi, good morning,
    the 300tdi water pump is actually designed to indicate if the inner seal is about to let go: there is some bore through which some coolant can come to the outside if the inner seal became leaky. it shows up on the engine block on the passenger side. you will see coolant streaks on the engine block (at the very front) and you wont be able to tell where they are starting.

    a new pump is around XXX$ at karcraft. it is easy to put the pump in. however, in my case, too, removing the old seal was the most unpleasant part of the job.

    there is a repair kit for a chevy water pump which can be used for the 300tdi water pump as well. this kit is cheap but it is just much faster and less time consuming to put in a new pump.

    good luck, cheers, axel

    Nick,

    I bought a new Pump thru BMI for $92.00 , it included the Gasket, IMHO if you are going thru all the trouble to get everything off to check / replace the P-Gasket I'd do the PUMP as well, how many K's has the 300tdi done ? I'll be glad to give you a Hand! Where abouts are you ?

    Mine did the same thing too not long after a new pump. I then found out the due to changes that were made to the 300tdi from the 200tdi to make it easier to change the timing belt there is a large alloy piece behind the pump etc which is attached by about 4 bolts (from memory) if you arent careful when doing the water pump you can damage this gasket/seal and before long it starts leaking.

    As above I reckon it is the P gasket too but for the $100 ish if you can spare it I'd be doing the pump at the same time
