    Ive seen one go!!!!
    Huge blue smoke cloud,loose power.
I was driving a truck at the time and couldnt stop, but knew whose pootrol it was.
Rang them that nite to tell them they had a hole in no4 piston, new motor needed.
He wouldnt have it,a week later he rang me back, you were dead right, how did you know?
In the end, nissan wouldnt pay for a new motor,ONLY JUST out of warranty!!!!!
BECAUSE HE HAD USED HIS OWN MECHANIC TO SERVICE.
Told him to search the net as nissan were handing out new motors even out of warranty.
No luck, bought a newie and sold it,all the pisan utes along with the wagon are also gone, now a mix of rodeo/tojo on the farm.

Well I had a new Nissan in 1976 and all I can say is a leopard never changes its spots.
Thats why I've driven landies for the last 28 years (and the half dozen b4 '76).
Even when I had it new and went away in it and some mates tagged along in my old landie (coz I was offered a lousy trade in) it broke down. Embarrassing to get towed home by the old landie.
Still, could be worse, the Nissans cant be cheap to fix nowadays.

You have to love the moronic mindset of the Japanese 4wd set... on that link, one bloke signs off "dont follow a rover; it wont make it", yet the thread is about [his and others] ZD30s exploding!

a Mate with a ZD30 Pat-roool had one of these Engine blow-ups last year , he used to drive the 4by like a sports car , ,he used to bag me about my disco , I think used to say how is your Poxy L/R going ? anyhow cut long story short he has taken Nissan to Court because they denied any problems with the ZD30 model. so the case is in arbitration and he is trying to recoupe the $10K he spent getting a complete engine + Turbo rebuild.

As for the question , Like Someone said was Blowing lots of Smoke , loss of power.
